![]() A parts guy overheard our conversation and brought out the kit assembly and he said I think this is what you need. We believe that was the owner we were talking to. “Sure what’s the part number?” We asked him to look it up. So we asked if we could get a set screw because we knew that was missing. ![]() “Ya do you know what two minutes turns into? Two hours”. My mechanics are yelling at me, my customers are mad at me because there sleds are taking to long for repair.” I said it will only take 5 minutes for him to look at the belt and tell us if our set up is wrong. We asked the gentleman at the counter if a mechanic could come take a look and tell us what parts we need. Upon entering the store we walked up to the counter and waited to be helped. This year one of our ski-doo’s had a belt problem so we found land o lakes recreational company who deals with ski doo. rather obviously, the left carbide was damaged or missing on this sled from day one.Įvery year we take our group up to northern Wisconsin and Upper Michigan for a snowmobile trip. NEVER have I encountered this problem with any prior sled I have rented, but I put it down to the four-stroke being heavier on the front end and determined never to rent another four-stroke again. My three days riding on the sled were OK, but far less enjoyable than any other sled I have ridden due to its front end sliding to the left whenever the sled was put into a right turn. In my opinion, he knew the left carbide was either damaged or missing at pickup and intended to collect for a damaged ski when it was dropped off. Two things bother me greatly about this incident: 1) from the day of pickup the attitude of this employee was surly and threatening, for no reason and 2) at sled drop off the whole reason for this employee's bad attitude became obvious. After this exchange, and to his credit, he backed off and no charge was assessed. it being stated he had shown me the carbide on the left ski previously (which he had not). At this point he rolled the sled over as had had done before and the right carbide he had shown me on checkout was the exact same as before (perfect condition), but this time he rolled the sled over further and said: "Oh, oh, I am going to have to charge you for a new left ski- damage due to no carbide." At this stage I protested, and things got heated. No damage whatsoever, then he jumped on the sled and rocked it violently back and forth, thereafter taking the gas cap to look at the tank level. In turning in the key to the sled, the same individual who originally checked me out went to look at it. It was full of gas from the station just across the street and in perfect condition, having been ridden slightly over 200 miles, at all times in the company of from 1 to 4 friends and in the same conditions. Three days later, and on the afternoon of the return date, I brought the sled in. since the carbide shown me was in perfect condition and my rental was for only three days. He said: "I will replace carbides five or six times with no problem but, if you damage a ski I will have to charge you for it." I could not see the carbide on the left ski and thought about having him show me that but thought better of it. The employee performing the rundown lifted the sled so that the right front ski was off the ground and pointed to the carbide runner. On the morning of pickup, I was provided the usual rundown on how this particular sled operated. The usual paperwork was filled out and it was agreed I could pick up my sled in the morning. My reservation was made well in advance, and I personally appeared at Land O' Lakes the day before my rental of a four-stroke sled was to commence, to let the staff know I had arrived and would pick up my rental the next day. Never have I had the slightest problem, until Land O' Lakes Recreation. I have ridden 0vr 6,000 miles during this period without serious mishap, on rental sleds from three different companies. With the exception of 2021 when Covid-19 was in full swing, I have traveled to both MI and WI over the past seven years to snowmobile with friends, many of whom own their own sleds and others who rent. I am an experienced snowmobiler and renter.
